Catherine Palmer
Born and raised in Bo’ness in West Lothian, I joined the Army, after studying for an SHND and working briefly for Lothian Regional Council. I was originally an officer in the Women’s Royal Army Corps, then became one of the first women to join the Royal signals. I served in England, Germany and N. Ireland, where I met my husband, also an Army Officer. I left the Army after 16 years and became Mum to 2 daughters. During one of my husband’s postings to N. Ireland, a neighbour coaxed me to join her on a quilting workshop at Red Cottage Crafts, Moira. After that I was hooked and joined Lagan Valley Quilters! As with all service families, we then moved, and I did one year of C & G Part 1 in Fareham, only to have to stop due to the arrival of my second daughter, but I joined the Southampton Quilters then the Scarp Happy Quilters, Gosport, to compensate. We moved to Scotland in 1998 and I soon started classes with Pat Archibald, then at Purely Patchwork. I joined the Design group which is now Freewheeling, and am currently a member of Greenpark Quilters, Polmont.
